The SKYX Remote Control Aircraft Design Competition 2025, organized for the first time by the Aeronautical Division of SEDS Sri Lanka, was held on 19th June 2025 at NSBM Green University. The event provided a national platform for aspiring engineers to demonstrate their creativity, technical expertise, and innovation in aircraft design.
A team of students: KASM Jayawardhana (Mechatronic Engineering), HMBM Herath (Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering), ASKM Amarasinghe (Mechanical Engineering), KWK Gimhana (Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering), and KRPG Jayawardhana (Mechatronic Engineering), representing the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Electrical, Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering, and Department of Marine Engineering from General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, participated in this prestigious competition under the team name Fire Flies.
Team ‘Fire Flies’ secured 2nd Place in the competition, earning recognition for their innovative aircraft design, technical precision, and exemplary teamwork. Their outstanding performance highlighted the multidisciplinary strength and problem-solving abilities of students from the Faculty of Engineering of KDU.
