On March 7th, 2024, members of the IMechE Students Chapter at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) successfully conducted their inaugural Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project for the year 2024.

The project focused on providing supplementary mathematics knowledge to students in grades 6 to 9 at Kotahena President's College, located on Alwis Road in Kotahena. The event was organised by D/S S.M.J.G.V. Subhasingha and was coordinated by Capt RS Ginige and LCdr (E) AATD Priyashan.  

The project commenced at 8:00 AM with an introduction to KDU by the IMechE Student Chapter President, D/S S. Leninnath. Following which, a brief overview of the day's activities were provided. Groups of Day Scholars were assigned to individual classes, where they assumed the responsibility of delivering the grade-appropriate mathematical lessons.

The learning environment fostered by the Day Scholars was interactive and engaging, promoting a positive and enjoyable learning experience for the Kotahena President's College students. The project aimed to strengthen the students' fundamental mathematical knowledge while introducing them to advanced concepts to cultivate critical thinking skills. Group activities were incorporated to encourage active and collaborative learning, allowing students to tackle various mathematical problems and enhance their teamwork abilities. Additionally, discussions centred on past exam questions provided valuable insights into the format and types of mathematical problems students can expect to encounter in future assessments.

Furthermore, the Day Scholars shared their valuable expertise in various teaching methodologies and classroom management techniques. Their collaborative efforts significantly contributed to the project's success and ensured the smooth execution of the planned activities.

The program concluded at 1:30 PM, coinciding with the school's dismissal time. D/S S. Leninnath, the IMechE Student Chapter President, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the Principle of Kotahena President’s College for the gracious opportunity and all participants for their contributions to the successful execution of the CSR project.
