The Student Chapter of the Royal Aeronautical Society of KDU was privileged to get an opportunity to visit the Ground School as well as the Hangar of the prestigious flight school, Openskies Flight Training.

45 Students from the Faculty of Engineering as well as the Faculty of Computing participated on this field trip, held on the 18th of March 2023. At the Ground School, instructors conducted sessions that educated the participants on concepts such as aircraft parts, basic aerodynamics, aircraft instruments as well as the role of the CAMO and Safety Manager of an operational airline/flight training institute.

After a quiz for the students, and awarding prizes for the first, second and third places, the students were given refreshments and were told to proceed to the Hangar Facilities at Katukuranda Airforce Base.

The students were divided into groups and shown the aircrafts as well as their engine systems. The students were also allowed to climb into the aircrafts under supervision and gained a lot of knowledge on the cockpits as well. The aircraft models that the Flight School had in operation were the Cessna 152, Cessna 172, Piper Warrior, Piper Cherokee and the Piper Senega.
