“Good Night Oppy”, the first event orchestrated by the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space Chapter of General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University, held on 31st of January 2023 at the Faculty of Graduate Studies Auditorium. This remarkable gathering, organized under the guidance of the Aeronautical Engineering Department saw enthusiastic participation from faculty members across diverse faculties within KDU. The event's focal point was the screening of the documentary "Good Night Oppy", suggested by Wing Commander SN Kiriwella, delving into the extraordinary journey of NASA's Opportunity Rover.

The President of SEDS KDU, Vishal Perera, welcomed the gathering on the community’s first project, immediately followed by the screening of the documentary providing insightful interviews with scientists and engineers, and vivid re-creations of the rover's journey across the Martian terrain in its quest for water. The narrative not only celebrated Oppy's resilience but also offered a glimpse into the dedication and ingenuity of the mission's team. As the lights dimmed at the conclusion of the documentary, Aduwa Geethanjana delivered the vote of thanks and the event concluded leaving participants with a renewed appreciation for space exploration as anticipated.
