On the 26th of February 2025, Intake 41 and Intake 42 Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering undergraduates of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University participated in a field visit to SLNS Gajabahu and Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDL). The visit aimed to enhance understanding of on-site equipment, processes, and operations by observing real-world conditions of undergraduates. This opportunity allowed undergraduates to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical applications, gathering vital data, analyzing operational processes, and exploring troubleshooting methods. At SLNS Gajabahu, all the undergraduates gained insights into the design, functionality, and operations of advanced naval systems, while the CDL visit provided a detailed understanding of shipbuilding, repair processes, and technological advancements in the dockyard.
Intake 41 and 42 undergraduates express heartfelt gratitude to SLNS Gajabahu and CDL for their warm hospitality, guidance, and willingness to share their expertise. This enriching experience has significantly deepened undergraduate's appreciation for the maritime industry’s complexities and equipped undergraduates with valuable practical knowledge essential for future careers in naval architecture and marine engineering.
