On the 26th of April, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) held an awareness session about the Speak Out for Engineering (SOFE) competition. The guest speaker for the event was Ms. Hansika Godage, a Maritime Mechanical Engineer and former undergraduate at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. Ms. Godage was also a national finalist for the SOFE competition and made it into the top six of the grand finales in the 2022 competition. During the event, Ms. Godage delivered an insightful presentation highlighting the importance of the SOFE competition and sharing her personal experience participating in the competition. Her speech focused on the benefits of the competition, including improved communication and presentation skills, as well as the opportunity to develop innovative solutions to engineering challenges. Following the session, students had the opportunity to ask Ms. Godage questions about her experience and the competition. The Q&A session was highly engaging, with many students participating and showing a keen interest in the competition. The awareness session was a great success, thanks to the informative and engaging delivery of Ms. Godage. The event provided valuable insights for students interested in the SOFE competition and highlighted the importance of developing strong communication and problem-solving skills in the field of engineering.
