IMechE CSR'23: Empowering Students to Choose a Future in Engineering and Electronics
On February 21, 2023, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) held its CSR"'"23 event at Zahira College in Maradana. The event was organized by the newly formed IMechE chapter 2023 committee and was presided over by G.G.L.B. Bandara and T.N.Kumarasinghe.
The major aim of the event was to provide students with a basic understanding of engineering and electronic applications and to help them choose a career path in these fields. The event started at 8:30 a.m. and ended at 2:00 p.m.
The occasion began with a "Career Advice" presentation, led by Marshad Siddeek, the previous president of IMechE. The session was focused on guiding students on how to choose a career path that aligns with their interests, skills, and aspirations. Marshad also spoke about the importance of being passionate and committed to one"'"s chosen career path.
Following the "Career Advice" presentation, Nisala Randeniya led a session on "Arduino Fundamentals". Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on simple software and hardware. During this session, students were introduced to the fundamentals of Arduino and its practical applications in engineering and electronics.
Toward the end of the program, an Arduino workshop was conducted. The workshop allowed students to apply the concepts they had learned during the session and to gain hands-on experience in using Arduino. The workshop was facilitated by experienced professionals from the industry, who provided guidance and assistance to the students.
The event was a great success, with positive feedback received from both the principal and the students. The IMechE chapter 2023 committee was commended for its efforts in organizing such an informative and interactive event for the benefit of students.
In conclusion, the IMechE CSR"'"23 event served as a platform for empowering students with knowledge and skills in engineering and electronics. The event provided a unique opportunity for students to learn from experienced professionals, and to gain practical experience in using Arduino. It is hoped that such events will continue to be organized in the future, to further empower students and encourage their interest in these fields.
