Best Paper in the Engineering Sessions at IRC 2022

15^thInternational Research Conference of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University was held on 29th and 30th of September 2022 under the theme of "Economic Revival, National Security, and Sustainability through Advancement of Science, Technology and Innovation".

The paper titled "Intelligent Battery Control Mechanism for Electric Bicycle" authored by UVH Sameera, KLATM Ranasinghe, RMPMD Rajapaksa, GMSM Gaspe, and WSM Melvin won the Award for the best paper in Engineering sessions.

The Research paper was based on introducing a rechargeable dual battery mechanism to manage and improve battery performance and improve the per-charge travelling distance of an electric bicycle, which was the outcome of an undergraduate Final Year Research Project in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2020. The research paper was presented at the Technical Session 1 on 30^th of September by the Mechatronic Engineering graduates of KDU; U.V.H. Sameera (Temporary Demonstrator at DoME), KLATM Ranasinghe, RMPMD Rajapaksa and GMSM Gaspe (Lecturer – Probationary at DoME).

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, KDU offers two bachelor’s degree programmes, namely, BScEngHons in Mechanical Engineering and BScEngHons in Mechatronic Engineering.
