Continuing their commitment to bridging academic learning with real-world industry exposure, the Mechatronics Engineering undergraduates of Intake 41 at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University participated in an educational industrial visit to Flintec Transducers (Pvt) Ltd in Katunayake on 12th September 2025.

Flintec, a global leader in high-precision measurement technologies, welcomed the students to its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. The visit began with a comprehensive briefing session where company representatives presented an overview of Flintec’s global operations, product portfolio, and technological innovations—focusing particularly on the design and manufacturing of load cells and sensors.

Following the briefing, students were guided through an extensive tour of the production facility. The team at Flintec provided detailed insights into each phase of the manufacturing process of their flagship product—the load cell. From raw material preparation to final product testing, every step was thoroughly explained. The tour highlighted not only the advanced machinery in use but also the critical role of skilled human labor in ensuring product precision. While automation plays a significant role, Flintec emphasized the superior accuracy delivered by expert technicians, underscoring the enduring value of craftsmanship in high-precision engineering.

The visit proved to be a highly enriching experience, offering students a clearer understanding of sensor technology and the practical challenges in precision manufacturing. The day concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Day Scholar M.D.D. Wijesinghe, who extended heartfelt appreciation to the Flintec team for their warm hospitality and valuable knowledge sharing.

This visit stands as a testament to the university’s ongoing efforts to prepare students for the dynamic demands of modern engineering industries through hands-on learning and exposure to real-world practices.
