On 12th September 2024, a field visit was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University for Intake 40 Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering students to DIMO Academy for Technical Skills and the DIMO 800 Mercedes Center.

The visit commenced at the DIMO Academy for Technical Skills, where students were introduced to the comprehensive training programs offered for automotive professionals. The academy focuses on developing technical expertise in vehicle diagnostics, repair, and maintenance. The students toured various sections, including hands-on workshops equipped with the latest tools and technologies used in the automotive industry. The visit provided insights into the academy’s approach to skill development, highlighting how theoretical knowledge is combined with practical training to meet industry standards.

After exploring the DIMO Academy, the students proceeded to the DIMO 800 Mercedes Center, a premier facility specializing in the maintenance and servicing of Mercedes-Benz vehicles. They were briefed on the center's operations, focusing on high-end vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, and quality control processes. Students witnessed the latest technologies used in servicing luxury vehicles, including advanced diagnostics, hybrid vehicle management, and precision maintenance techniques.

Following the tour of the Mercedes Center, the students enjoyed lunch at the facility, providing an opportunity to engage in informal discussions and reflect on their learnings.

The field visit was an enriching experience, giving undergraduates a comprehensive understanding of both technical training and luxury vehicle maintenance. It provided valuable practical exposure to advanced automotive technologies and the operational standards required to maintain high-performance vehicles like Mercedes-Benz.
