The Annual General Meeting of the Student Chapter of the Royal Aeronautical Society of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (RAeS KDU) was successfully held on the 29th of January 2025 at the Faculty of Graduate Studies Auditorium. Marking a momentous occasion, the event featured the unveiling of the chapter’s new official logo and the appointment of the new Executive Committee for the period 2024–2025.

Leadership for a New Chapter

A highlight of the AGM was the formal induction of the new Executive Committee, a team of dedicated student leaders entrusted with carrying forward the chapter’s mission. The new logo of RAeS-KDU was proudly unveiled during the ceremony, symbolizing the evolution and renewed vision of the student chapter. The fresh visual identity reflects both tradition and modernity, signifying the chapter’s growing popularity within the university community.

Words of Wisdom 
The event was honoured by the presence of Dr. Thushara Weerawardane, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, who attended as the Chief Guest and extended his support and encouragement to the student body. His remarks emphasized the value of student-led initiatives in shaping the future of aviation professionals.
 

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Upuli Warnakula, a distinguished aviation professional with over 15 years of experience in the industry. Dr. Warnakula, a lecturer specializing in IATA cabin crew training, corporate etiquette, grooming, and emotional intelligence, captivated the audience with her insightful perspectives on the ever-evolving landscape of aviation. Her session served as both a motivational and a practical guide for the students in attendance.

A Promising Path Ahead
The AGM was marked by enthusiastic student participation, reaffirming the chapter’s role as a hub for like-minded students with a passion for aviation at KDU. With a dynamic new executive team and a fresh identity, RAeS KDU is well-positioned to continue its legacy of excellence in the field of aviation.
