Lazarus'24 Night Sky Observation Camp, organized by SEDS KDU, was an exhilarating event held on the 5th and 6th of July. The camp brought together space enthusiasts for a night of astronomical exploration, engaging activities, and friendships. The event took place from 6 PM on the 5th until 8 AM at the Faculty of Engineering on the 6th of July 2024, providing a comprehensive overnight experience.

The camp kicked off with an introductory session, setting the tone for an exciting night ahead. Participants were welcomed and briefed on the night's schedule, which included a series of engaging activities designed to spark interest in space exploration and foster teamwork. The event was graced by the presence of lecturers for the  Department of Aeronautical Engineering and other departments, as well as by the presence of several board members representing SEDS Sri Lanka.

Various lectures, competitions, and activities kept the participants engaged throughout the night. A session on how to read a Star-map taught participants how to manually navigate the starry skies for notable celestial bodies and constellations.  A quiz competition tested their knowledge of space and astronomy, while an egg drop competition challenged their engineering skills and problem-solving abilities. In addition to the egg drop competition, a model-glider building competition challenged participants to design and fly the most efficient planes, adding an element of fun and creativity. The talent show, SEDS Got Talent, offered a platform for participants to showcase their diverse talents, keeping their energy high late into the night. These activities not only provided entertainment but also encouraged critical thinking and teamwork.

The highlight of the event was the water rocket competition, which concluded the camp on a high note. Teams worked together to build and launch their rockets, aiming for both distance and accuracy. The competitive spirit and innovative designs showcased the creativity and enthusiasm of the participants, making it a memorable finale. The winning teams were rewarded with prizes and valuable certificates in recognition of their achievements.

Lazarus'24 Night Sky Observation Camp was a resounding success, fostering a sense of community and inspiring a deeper appreciation for space exploration. The event not only provided a platform for learning and creativity but also created unforgettable memories for all involved. SEDS KDU looks forward to organizing more such exciting events in the future, continuing to ignite the passion for space exploration among students.
