On March 26, 2024, the Faculty of Engineering (FOE) at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) hosted a workshop titled "The Applications of The Latest Design Software." The workshop was conducted by SFS Academy, an authorized Autodesk training centre with TVEC accreditation.

The workshop featured presentations from esteemed speakers from SFS Academy, including Ms. Nilmini, Manager; Mr. Chathura Wijesinghe, Business Development Manager; Mr. Rushan Perera and Ms. Yadeega, Instructors. The event was meticulously coordinated by Senior Lecturer Mrs. PPSS Pussepitiya and Capt. RS Ginige, Officer in Charge of IMechE. Other esteemed faculty members were also present.

Approximately 50 students from Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering disciplines across intakes 38, 39, 40, and 41 actively participated in the workshop. D/S Jeewya served as the compere, and D/S Thilina delivered a warm welcome address, introducing the speakers.

Mr. Chathura Wijesinghe presented an overview of SFS Academy, highlighting their status as an authorized Autodesk training centre with TVEC accreditation. He discussed the benefits of learning at SFS Academy, the diverse age range of their courses, and the various Autodesk software products they offer. He also emphasized industry-specific programs designed to equip undergraduates and employers with expertise in various engineering design software applications.

Mr. Rushan Perera led a session on the introduction of mechanical design software. He began with a historical perspective on the evolution of engineering drawing and design across various disciplines. He then outlined the benefits of using design software, explored different types of mechanical design software available, and delved into the fundamentals of design modeling. Mr. Perera explained the concept of parametric modeling with an interactive session, followed by a discussion on the design-to-manufacturing workflow. He showcased basic modeling, assembly, and simulation functions within SolidWorks software.

The workshop concluded at 6:00 pm with a Q&A session for students to address their queries directly to the speakers. D/S Sakith delivered a vote of thanks on behalf of the FOE, expressing gratitude to SFS Academy for their valuable contribution.
