A project team led by Commodore (E) MCP Dissanayake MSc (ME) (Australia), BTech Mech Eng, CEng(India), MIE(India), AMIE(SL) has developed the low cost tri-cycle to the next level by introducing an electric driving mechanism. The new design has been renamed as E-Rickshaw which reduces the effort of the driver significantly compared to a traditional tri-cycle.

This was manufactured according to a concept of Commodore (E) MCP Dissanayake MSc (ME) (Australia), BTech Mech Eng, CEng(India), MIE(India), AMIE(SL) of the Department of Marine Engineering as a initial step of solar powered electric tricycle.
