On 3rd August  2023, a field visit was organized by the Department of Marine Engineering of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University to the BAFF Polymech (Pvt) Ltd at Koggala. BAFF Polymech (Pvt) Ltd is a leading company in Sri Lanka creating Leisure Crafts and other polymer-based vessel parts. This was a great opportunity for all the Marine engineering undergraduates and Naval architecture undergraduates to get direct exposure to how sea vessels are being designed and built.

The main objective of the visit was to motivate and give a clear understanding of the career opportunities available and the path to be created in becoming an expert in the field for all the newly enlisted Naval architecture undergraduates representing both Cadets and Day-scholars of Intake 40. First-hand experience in Vessel designing, Load analyzing, Mold making, and knowledge of various materials used in making polymer Vessels were gained by everyone who joined the visit.

The visit provided Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture undergraduates with a transformative learning experience. Through this initiative, the students gained practical knowledge, expanded their industry networks, and developed a greater appreciation for Vessel designing and building. This visit exemplified the commitment of Marine Engineering Department to nurturing future engineering professionals and fostering excellence in the field of marine engineering and naval architecture.
