The marine diesel engine simulator has been established using a large slow-speed diesel engine acquired from a decommissioned ship of Sri Lanka Navy. This engine can be named as possibly one of the few operational engines in its model (Niigata 6M 26AGT) and the purpose of establishing such a simulator is to cater to the demanding competence of marine engineers, by simulating real-time emergencies which are frequently confronted when working with marine diesel engines onboard.
This simulator becomes one of the sophisticated engine simulation platforms in Sri Lanka pertinent to Marine diesel engine education. It provides a real-time experience of the ship’s engine room. The simulator is capable to provide practical training for undergraduates on starting/ stopping procedures, Engine room watchkeeping practices, and emergencies during the operation of a marine diesel engine.
