It is with huge pleasure the ICE student chapter has announced that two of the KDU undergraduates have been selected for the final round of the Emerging Civil Engineer Award 2024. It is a competition organized by the student chapter of the Institute of Civil Engineers, Sri Lanka annually.
The finalists from KDU are HPMM Gunasekara and DA Oshadhi.

The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the strongest and longest-running academic departments in the Faculty of Engineering at KDU. The department has a vast spectrum of scope to provide the latest knowledge in the field of Civil Engineering education, research, and development to produce competent Engineers.There are opportunities for students to gain strong theoretical knowledge as well as practical exposure through activities such as survey camps, industrial training, and industrial visits. The department also facilitates the Faculty of Graduate Studies of KDU in conducting MSc in Civil and Structural Engineering degree programme.The Department of Civil Engineering is occupied with well-qualified academic staff, academic supportive staff, and non-academic staff. Most of the lecturers have earned their PhD degrees from renowned universities in the world. The degree programmes offered by the Department of Civil Engineering are followed by both foreign and local students as officer cadets and day scholars. Students get an opportunity to be involved in many clubs and societies operating at the university and department levels.The department possesses seven laboratories equipped with the most updated apparatus facilitating undergraduate education and research. Among these equipment, there are several high-quality and high-capacity machines such as 1000kN UTM machine and 3000kN Compression Testing machine.The Department of Civil Engineering will continue to produce qualified Civil Engineers and Building Service Engineers who will excel in their careers for the betterment of society.
