The Students for the Exploration and Development of Space – KDU (SEDS KDU) successfully concluded two of its flagship events for 2025 ASTROLIT ’25, the Article Writing Competition, and ASTROFOCUS ’25, the Astrophotography Contest. Both initiatives aimed to inspire creativity, scientific enthusiasm, and a deeper understanding of space and technology among the KDU community.
ASTROLIT ’25 – Article Writing Competition
The Satellite and IT Division of SEDS KDU organized ASTROLIT ’25, an article writing competition that encouraged students to explore and articulate their ideas on themes related to satellite technology, information systems, and advancements in space research.
Participants were invited to submit original articles that combined technical understanding with creativity and analytical insight. The competition sought to cultivate writing skills and innovative thinking in the context of modern space exploration. Submissions were open from 21st July to 11th August 2025, and the event saw enthusiastic participation from students across multiple faculties.
ASTROFOCUS ’25 – Astrophotography Contest
Parallel to this, the Media Division of SEDS KDU conducted ASTROFOCUS ’25, an astrophotography contest that celebrated the beauty of the cosmos through the art of photography. Participants were encouraged to capture celestial phenomena, night skies, and cosmic landscapes, showcasing their creative perspectives of the universe.
Submissions for the contest were also open from 21st July to 11th August 2025, and the event witnessed an impressive display of photographic talent, with each entry reflecting the participants’ unique connection to astronomy and space science. The winners of the competition were announced recently, with Dharman Hema securing 1st place, Duvindu Lasath winning 2nd place, and Lithila Herath taking 3rd place, recognizing their outstanding skill and creativity in astrophotography.
Impact and Significance
Both ASTROLIT ’25 and ASTROFOCUS ’25 exemplified SEDS KDU’s commitment to nurturing interdisciplinary learning, innovation, and a passion for the unknown. By blending the technical with the artistic, these events provided a platform for students to express their fascination with space while enhancing their communication and creative skills.
Through such initiatives, SEDS KDU continues to promote exploration, scientific literacy, and curiosity, encouraging the next generation of students to reach beyond boundaries and discover the wonders of the universe.
