The Student Chapter of the Royal Aeronautical Society is proud to annouce the succesfull completion of the very first Remote Control Aircraft workshop held at Katukurunda Airforce Base.
About 30 students participated for the visit including students from the Facutly of Engineering as well as the Faculty of Computing. During the event the students got a unique opportunity to understand the design and the construction of the UAVs in the UAV squadron including the indivudal components and estimated costs in constructing a UAV.
The students were shown how to build a UAV from the diagrams available online in the first session and after refreshments provided by the Base, the next session consisting of flying the R/C aircraft commenced.
The Instructors demonstrated flying their aircraft while the R/C aircraft belonging to the Division were flown by the students as well. Flt. Lft. Jayasooriya expressed the need of selection of 10 individuals who would be chosen to form the Drone Pilots Squadron of KDU.
