Lecture on Introduction to Nanotechnology

(Lecture #1 of the Nanotechnology for Engineers Lecture Series)

On 20th April 2023, the Marine Engineering Society at the Faculty of Engineering (FOE) organized a lecture on Hydrogen Green Energy. The webinar was conducted by the Senior Professor CAN Fernando, who is an expert in Nano Science and Technology.
More than 100 engineering undergraduates, representing Intake 37 and 38, participated in the webinar. The session started with a warm welcome by the organizer, followed by an introduction of the speaker. The professor then began his presentation, which was very informative and engaging.
The session commenced with an introduction to Nanotechnology and then brief overview of the current energy crisis and the need for green energy alternatives. The professor then introduced the concept of Hydrogen Green Energy, which has recently gained a lot of attention in the scientific community. He explained the science behind the process of extracting hydrogen from water and converting it into a fuel source.
The professor also discussed the benefits of using hydrogen as an energy source, including its abundance, versatility, and zero-emission properties. He explained the different types of hydrogen fuel cells and their applications, such as in transportation, power generation, and heating.
The speaker's explanation of the technical aspects of hydrogen green energy was simple and easy to understand, which made the session enjoyable for the participants. He also shared some examples of current research and development in the field of hydrogen energy, including the use of nanotechnology in improving hydrogen storage.
The session ended with a Q&A session, during which the professor answered questions from the participants. The questions ranged from the efficiency of hydrogen fuel cells to the potential risks involved in hydrogen storage.
Overall, the lecture conducted by Senior Professor CAN Fernando was a huge success, and the participants gained a lot of knowledge about Hydrogen Green Energy. The session was informative and engaging, and the professor's explanation of the technical aspects was simple and easy to understand. The Marine Engineering Society at FOE deserves praise for organizing such an informative session for the benefit of the engineering undergraduates.
