Industrial training unit (ITU) is coordinating the Practical portion of Engineering Degree programs of KDU to practice the theoretical concepts learnt at the university to convert to Industrial usage within the boundaries of Engineering and Management. ITU established in year 2016 and it has trained 649 Undergraduates since inception. ITU coordinates training of students at leading Private and Governmental industries in Sri Lanka including CEB, SLPA , Railway, Dimo, Brandix, MAS, Dialog, Mobitel and Colombo Dockyard etc.

Industrial training unit (ITU) is coordinating the Practical portion of Engineering Degree programs of KDU to practice the theoretical concepts learnt at the university to convert to Industrial usage within the boundaries of Engineering and Management. ITU established in year 2016 and it has trained 649 Undergraduates since inception. ITU coordinates training of students at leading Private and Governmental industries in Sri Lanka including CEB, SLPA , Railway, Dimo, Brandix, MAS, Dialog, Mobitel and Colombo Dockyard etc. Industrial training is a non GPA 6-credit module which includes a compulsory engineering practice under the supervision of professional engineers from the industry for one semester. The type of training to be undergone by the student depends on his/her Engineering Discipline. It is oriented towards exposing them to an industrial environment with a view to gain comprehensive knowledge of work places, work processes, safety at work and develop desirable attitudes towards work.

Industrial training unit coordinates registering of students with National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) before going through the training program. NAITA is the National body for coordinating Industrial Training. This will include program to orientate students for Industrial environment and registering the students at NAITA before going to respective industries. After commencement of Industrial training ITU will monitor the progress of students by visits to industries to monitor the progress of training.
