The Department of Civil Engineering of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University offers Bachelor of Science of Engineering Degree in Civil Engineering covering all the subject areas needed to produce a competent Civil Engineer. The degree programme ensures that the students get strong theoretical knowledge as well as practical exposure through activities such as survey camps, industrial training, and industrial visits. The department also facilitates the Faculty of Graduate Studies of KDU in conducting MSc in Civil and Structural Engineering.

Department of Civil Engineering is one of the strongest departments in the university having well qualified lecturers. Most of the lecturers have earned their PhD degree from renowned universities in the world. As many of the departments in KDU, our department also has a student population consists of both foreign and local officer cadets and fee levying students (day scholars). Students get opportunity to involve in many clubs and societies operating at university and department level.

The department possesses seven laboratories equipped with many apparatus facilitating undergraduate education and research. Among these equipment, there are several high quality and high-capacity machines such as 1000kN UTM machine and 3000kN Compression Testing machine.
